“THE FOREST FOR THE TREES”

Essay “Trees, Looking”, by Barbara Godard

Like the pen and ink drawing where words are written in vertically positioned black lines on white ground, this arboreal litany stresses the chiastic reversibility of sensing and sensed. Words as graphemes render sensation in visual terms through the differential relations of colour and line.

Alan Glicksman’s visual vocabulary describes raw states of being. In the words of Globe and Mail art critic Gary Michael Dault, Alan Glicksman's works are “full of newly minted joy”.
